Abstract guidelines

Preparing the abstract

• The abstract should be submitted via the online portal. Emailed abstracts will not be accepted.
• The Submitting Author is responsible for all communication relating to abstract submission, and for informing the ASNAC team of the name and contact details of the Presenting Author, if they are not the same person.
• Original Research should follow the structure: TITLE, BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES, METHOD, RESULTS, CONCLUSIONS.
• Case Reports/Series should follow the structure: TITLE, BACKGROUND, CASE PRESENTATION (REPORT), DISCUSSION.
• The title should be brief but adequately descriptive. Lower case letters should be used except at the beginning of the title and unless otherwise indicated.
• Author names should be given only as surnames followed by initials. Prefixes such as Mr, Dr or Professor should not be used. All authors must be listed.
• The text of the abstract should be written in UK English and not exceed 300 words.
• The authors take full public responsibility for the research work and the contents reported in the abstract.
• If the work has been previously presented or published, in whole or in part, this must be stated clearly when submitting. It does not disqualify the paper.
• Ethical approval is assumed for interventional studies, and a copy should be submitted where relevant.
• All case reports and case series require the patient's written consent for publication and the approval of the consultant in charge.

Submitting the abstract

• The abstract should be submitted via the online portal. Emailed abstracts will not be accepted.
• There is no facility to submit hard copies directly to the ASN office.

Review and acceptance

• All submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the ASNAC Scientific Committee. Results will be emailed to the submitting/corresponding authors with further instructions.
• The Association of Sri Lankan Neurologists reserves the right to allocate selected abstracts to either oral or poster presentations.
• Apart from changes requested by the reviewers, no amendments to the submitted abstract (including the number of authors) will be entertained.
• Inability to present an accepted paper should be communicated by email to the ASNAC secretariat (asnac@asn.lk). Failure to present an accepted paper will be considered an episode of academic and scientific misconduct.

Registering for ASNAC

• The presenting author of a selected abstract must register for ASNAC prior to the date of presentation. Other authors who wish to attend must register separately. Please contact the ASNAC Congress Secretariat (asnac@asn.lk).

Oral and poster presentations

• Presentation guidelines and instructions will be sent to the corresponding authors of chosen abstracts.

Publication

• Accepted abstracts will be published in the ASNAC book of abstracts, available for download from the ASNAC website.
• The Association of Sri Lankan Neurologists reserves the right to make alterations and to edit the title and/or text to improve quality.
• Following the congress, all accepted abstracts will be published in a Supplement issue of the Sri Lanka Journal of Neurology.
